Becoming an HGV driver is not as difficult as you may think, and here at Andy Swan HGV Training, we are here to help you every step of the way of your training.
We will walk you through every stage of the process, from beginning to end. We’ll help you with your medical and provisional licence application, theory revision and hazard perception practice and can book all of your tests for you.

A Category C Licence allows drivers to drive Rigid vehicles over 3.5 tonnes but must not exceed 32 tonnes.
You will need to pass a medical with a registered GP, which we can help you with.
Once the medical is passed you will need to send your licence away to have the provisional entitlement added to it by DVLA.
Next step is to undertake your theory tests then you van move onto the practical driving training and test.
Should you want to earn your living from driving you will also need to pass Modules 2 and 4.

A Category C+E or Class 1 Licence is the most comprehensive HGV licence you can hold. With this licence drivers can drive and handle a draw-bar or articulated vehicle.
The E part of the category C+E licence stands for entitlement and means that the holder can go up to or over 750KG in trailer weight.
If you already hold a current Category C (Class 2) licence you can undertake the training for C+E (Class 1) without the need to pass further medicals or theories.

From the 15th November 2021 the UK Government removed the requirement to hold a Class 2 licence before progressing to Class 1.
You are still required to pass a Medical and your theory tests prior to undertaking the practical driving training and test.
The training course is delivered over 6 days with the test on Day 7.

Our Ambulance Driver Training courses are designed to meet the highest industry standards and empower you with knowledge, skills and confidence in this demanding field.
Get ready to rev up your skills with our training courses. Led by experienced and certified instructors, our classes blend theory with hands-on practice for a comprehensive learning experience.
Can be a separate part of your HGV / LGV Training.
Can be completed once you have passed your theory tests and is a practical test where drivers must show various operations other than actual driving.
This can include safe loading techniques, full vehicle safety checks, emergency situation assessments.
This means you will be taught your reverse exercise at the same place as you take your test.
To perfect the art of going backwards you will have access to unlimited practise.
All of our cat C+E instructors are also qualified 3A assessors however the instructor teaching you is unable to assess you so one of our other instructors will assess you instead.

Andy Swan
Managing Director of Andy Swan Driver Services. I am an NRI Registered Instructor and the company is also registered with the RTITB Master Drivers Consortium for Periodic CPC Driver Training. The ethos of my company is to be your point of contact throughout your training and beyond.
Nikki Horne
My role is Office Manager however for me 2 days are never the same! I plan and book all your training packages from Medicals through to Practical Driving Test appointments. Most times I am the voice at the end of the phone. Always happy to have a chat and go through your various training options.
Macca
I'm nearly 1 year old and I live with Andy and Nikki. My job is Head of Security. I love to play with anything made from cardboard! I also do Meet and Greet for every visitor to the office. To relax on my days off I love to play football and then go for a swim in the local ponds.

Alex is a qualified instructor who joined us a couple of years ago as the next generation of Swan’s to future-proof the business. As he’s the youngest of us all, he’s teaching us all a few modern things along the way. Alex is involved in the day-to-day running of the business and has a wealth of knowledge about trucks since he has been around them from such a young age. He is also a 3A and mod 4 assessor.
